Sergei 1-1This is Sergei – an 8 year old boy from Belarus who was due to travel to the UK this summer for a month of respite with his host family in Hucknall. Sadly Sergei was recently diagnosed with bone cancer and will be unable to travel with the rest of the children on our programme this year.

After recently undergoing surgery at Minsk Cancer Hospital, we are delighted to confirm that Sergei is now back at home with his Mum and is doing well. He still has to face 7 rounds of chemotherapy, but this brave little boy has been given a good chance of recovery and is determined to beat his illness.

A visit by our Helping Hands team and CEO Mike Cowan were guaranteed to put a smile back on his face when they presented him with a remote controlled car – something he has dreamed of owning!  Our team in Belarus will be paying regular visits to his family and keeping a close eye on his progress.

Sergei and his mum will be in our thoughts and prayers over the coming months and we wish him a speedy and full recovery. Fingers crossed he will be back with our Hucknall Group next summer.
