We rounded off the first week of activities with a brilliant visit to Conkers and despite two energetic activities on Thursday at swimming and 360 play, the children were all raring to go as we left the Scout Hut. I took a detour with Jim to Loughborough to collect the great red jumpers with their embroidered FOCC logos (which really made the children stand out) and met the children just as they were getting off the bus.
We all headed inside to the Discovery Centre with its interactive exhibits. The children tried out the play area and then went outside and got on the Conkerchoo II train, which took us to the outdoor adventure playground. There was lots to do here with swings, slides and huge explorer dome, which the children clambered all over. We were fortunate to have good weather and the children really enjoyed themselves.
After wearing the children out on the outdoor playground we got the train back and popped to the bus to pick up our lunch, which we ate on the grass.
After lunch the children had a close encounter with a variety of live animals, including snakes, owls, frogs and an armadillo. They also had the opportunity to feed lettuces to some sleepy tortoises.
Because they’d been so well behaved, the children were treated to an ice cream before taking a gentle walk around the lake and then made our way back to the bus.
Looking forward to a bit of a rest (after the sailing day of course) before the dentist and Beaumanor Hall on Monday.
