A slightly different day today with the afternoon devoted to our annual Open Day. But first the morning, where it was another trip to Abbey Sports and Leisure for a swimming session. We set off promptly at 9.30am and on arrival the children quickly got changed and headed for the pool. They spent just over an hour in the pool and had loads of fun.
Once dry and dressed it was lunchtime, provided by Abbey Sports. We were served with meatballs, spaghetti, garlic bread and salad, followed by a vanilla ice cream cone with chocolate topping. Yummy! All the children loved the food and ate very well. Thanks to Abbey Sports and Leisure for laying it on.
After lunch, we returned to the Scout Hut to prepare for the open day. At 2pm we opened the doors and despite starting off fairly quietly it soon picked up and the crowds began to arrive. We had guests from the Lions, Co-op, Council and many other organisations.
They were served with tea and coffee and could choose from a lovely selection of home-made cakes, while the children did a craft activity. At around 3.30pm the children performed two brilliant songs to the guests before handing out their craft creations (thank you cards).
As the open day came to a close, everyone agreed they’d had a really great afternoon and it was time to pack up and go home.
Thank you to all the people who contributed the lovely cakes and those who helped with the teas and coffees. Thanks also to Kloe and Lily for voluteering and a special mention to Alison who collected the pottery from Loughborough.
Finally, a really big thank you to David, who has been driving the mini-bus for us over the past three weeks. It was David’s last day of driving today and we’ll miss him next week. Thanks David.
I’m shopping for University tomorrow but will be back volunteering on Monday. Have a great weekend everyone.
