Today it was time for the children to visit the opticians. Some of the children met us at the opticians in Glenfield and one by one they all had their eyes tested. While each child was in the opticians, the other children entertained themselves on the park with Katia. I was responsible for ferrying them back and forth!
The children were in and out of the optician in super quick time so we all jumped on the bus and headed over to Loughborough University for our lunch. Jonathan met us outside and escorted us into the Hazlerigg Building where they came face to face with Bob Allison, the very tall Vice Chancellor of the University. From there they headed upstairs to the grand Council Chamber for their buffet lunch.
We were treated to a selection of sandwiches and wraps, sausage rolls, cheese goujons, tomatoes, crisps and the very exciting cheeseburger crostini (which everybody loved). For dessert there was lots of fruit and mini doughnuts. The Chief Operating Officer of the University, Richard Taylor, also came along and spoke to some of the children and Yulia and Katia. The children all ate really well and went back for seconds and thirds!
With the buffet finished we headed back outside and had photos taken on the fountain lawn before going back to the bus and travelling into Loughborough for our pottery painting session.
All the children were given a plain mug and put their artistic skills to the test decorating them. There was some very ‘creative’ attempts, which you’ll all see next week once they have been glazed and fired. One the way back to the bus we stopped off for an ice cream, which the children ate on the bus on the way home.
Thanks to Ali, Eloise, David and Kloe for volunteering today.
A very exciting day planned for tomorrow at the National Space Centre in Leicester. See you then.
