Host families are required to provide a stable,  loving home, nourishing meals and lots of TLC for a vulnerable child that will be placed in their care for 4 weeks.

Enhanced DBS (formerly CRB) checks will be required for all members of the household who are age 18yrs or over and references will be taken up for all applicants.

All children on the program are aged between 7 and 13 years of age and are placed with one host family for the duration of their stay.

Our visits generally take place during early August.

The charity organises a daily programme of activities for the children to participate in from Monday to Friday between the hours of approx. 9.00am and 4.30pm. The children spend evenings and weekends at home with their host family although there are opportunities for them to socialise with the other children outside the normal programme.

Host families must live within commuting distance of our Day Centre in Markfield and must be able to get to the village to drop off their child each day so that they can take part in the activities programme. Early drop offs and late pick ups can usually be arranged to assist working host families.

The children travel to the UK with two English speaking interpreters who are on 24 hour call to provide support and assistance to host families in the event of communication issues or a problem with their child. Host families will also be able to call upon other experienced host families and our Host Family Coordinator for help and support throughout the visit.

We aim to bring each child to the UK for 5 consecutive years in the belief that the cumulative benefits of our programme help to boost the children’s depleted immune systems and improve their general health and wellbeing.

Where possible, we endeavour to place each child with the same host family each year, however we never ask any host family to make a 5 year commitment when they sign up. That said, many hosts form very strong bonds with the child they care for and go on to host year after year.

Hosting a child can be truly rewarding.
